Three programs for different board responsibilities
Each program runs independently. Choose according to your experience and development priorities. You do not need to complete all three in sequence.
Help choosing a program
New directors may find either Foundation or Next-Gen appropriate. Foundation provides a focused introduction in four days; Next-Gen offers a broader development experience with personal assessment and feedback. Tell us about your role and goals, and the CGC team can help you explore the options.
Program I — Board Excellence: The Foundations of Effective Governance
Who it is for: Top executives · professionals seeking a board seat · newly appointed directors · governance professionals
Format: 4 days · 2 modules · Riyadh, 14–17 December 2026 · Register Your Interest
Build the judgment to contribute effectively before, or as, you take a board seat. Over four days, explore where decisions belong, how boards engage with management and how directors act when information is incomplete.
Module 1 — Understanding the foundation of board governance. Examine where key decisions are taken, board roles and support functions, and the interaction of formal structures and informal influence in GCC governance. Explore human judgment and AI support, personal board behavior and common dilemmas involving the chair, the CEO, fellow directors and subsidiaries. Cases, a board behavior survey and a simulation support a learning journal and personal development agenda.
Module 2 — Orchestrating effective board assignments. Work with a full board pack to examine information gaps, risk escalation, stakeholder communication and board effectiveness. A continuous case connects both days and culminates in a role-based board simulation, a structured debrief and exercises to improve reporting and information flow. Consider how directors interrogate machine-generated analysis. Written exercises help you retain and apply the learning.
You will be able to:
- Distinguish the responsibilities of directors, management and board support functions
- Read a board pack critically, identify omissions and ask focused follow-up questions
- Contribute to collective decisions under time pressure and incomplete information
- Trace how material risks reach the board and identify weaknesses in escalation
- Assess board dynamics and propose improvements to reporting and board support
Practical application: Leave with your learning journal, a personal development agenda and written work on board information and effectiveness that you can revisit in your own context.
